Sony PDAs
Sony has always been on the cutting edge of technology and these PDAs are no different. They feature a large screen with high resolution (3.8 inch screen with 320 X 480 pixel) which makes the hand held CLIE PDA an excellent choice for multimedia and web applications. CLIE stands for Communications Link Information Entertainment.
The Sony CLIE PDA comes with a see through cover so if any alarms go off, you can immediately see what they were for. The PDA weighs about 6.5 ounces and has the hook ups for WiFi and comes with a camera that is built in. The camera can save any images in four different sizes. It can also adjust the brightness of the picture and add special effects. The CLIE Organizer program lets you write freehand on the notepad and date book pages.
The Sony processor lets you have along battery life. It was tested at four hours and fifty minutes. Sony states it can go for fifteen days of moderate use. These newer Internet Sony PDAs use a Lithium Ion Polymer rechargeable battery. Playing games and movies will shorten the battery's life.
The WiFi had a great range and it finds all usable networks. Browsing can drag sometimes, but there is good news on this front. The PDA has a graphics accelerator chip. This will help speed up the download of movies and MP3 as well as playing them back. On some models, Aeroplayer and Kinoma Player are included. You can play your MP3s and videos in full audio and full screen.
For memory issues, these models come with a 8MB memory stick. You just push it in and start going. Or you can push it in, and it will pop out. It is only to be used for strictly storage, you cannot use it to run applications from it.
These newer hand held PDAs also have a jog dial which is something like the roller ball on your computer's mouse. You can rotate through your menus and then press in on the jog dial to pick one. Performance speed is usually quite good. With a 16mHz processor, downloading or trying to use your USB port happens much quicker.
Several software programs come already installed in your Sony PDA. You will get the CLIE mail, Netfront 3.1 Web Browser, and the Decuma Handwriting Recognition program. Als, included in your bundle is the Palm Desktop 4.1, CLIE Image Viewer, Memory Stick Backup, Grafitti 2 Handwriting recognition, and Palm OS PIM applications.
Since it has the protective cover, the scroll wheel has been moved to the back on some PDAs. This makes it very difficult to use when trying to scroll down web pages or directories. If you are wanting to play games, use a joystick instead. The four keys are on the bottom edge and they are very small. The stylus that is sent with the PDA is not long enough even when fully extended. There were some complaints that even when the stylus was pulled out to the length, it would crumple to a shorter length when writing with it.
